Walnut Hill Farm—Nestled in scenic Western Maryland lies Walnut Hill Farm, a place brimming with cherished memories for my family. It’s not just any farm; it’s the only one on I-68 graced by the iconic “Betty Ruth” covered bridge, sparking countless glances from passing travelers. This idyllic haven hosted my son’s senior photo shoot last year, igniting a passion in me that I believe was always meant to be.
The shoot began with a simple plan: capture my nephew Colin’s senior portraits in a few picturesque locations. But as we rode around the farm in my Jeep Wrangler, anticipation crackled amongst my nephew and niece, Connor and Evey. Their excitement to be photographed surprised me, and soon, my focus expanded to embrace their playful energy. Armed with my humble Canon Rebel T6, I captured Colin’s kind eyes and genuine smile, earning me the coveted title of “talented photographer” within the family (much to my amusement, considering this was literally my first photo shoot).
Colin’s patience with his siblings shone throughout the session. As I transitioned between locations, his gentle nature would shift the spotlight to Connor and Evey, capturing their infectious laughter and youthful poses. This wasn’t just about senior portraits; it was about celebrating the warmth and love within our family.
Colin, the ideal older brother, radiated kindness and talent. His handsome features perfectly complemented his musical gifts as he improvised various melodies on his guitar throughout the session. His willingness to share the spotlight with his siblings solidified his status as an amazing young man.
To my sister and brother-in-law—words can’t express my gratitude for inadvertently sparking this creative journey. And to Colin, Evey, and Connor, thank you for making this photoshoot not just memorable, but transformative. Walnut Hill Farm wasn’t just the backdrop; it was the catalyst for rediscovering a passion that started decades ago.
